The polaroid style: why the white border works
A white border with extra space at the bottom instantly recalls old instant photos, where that strip held the developing chemistry and left room for a handwritten note. Today it's a visual shorthand everyone recognizes: it gives your photo a nostalgic, "printed" feel, sets the subject apart from the feed, and leaves space to add a handwritten caption or a date with any photo-editing app. Check the polaroid box and the tool adds the bottom strip automatically.
How thick should the border be?
Thickness here is a percentage of the shorter side, so the result looks proportional on any photo, from a selfie to a wide panorama. For a subtle frame, 2–4% is plenty; 5–8% is the typical fine-art-print balance; above 10% the border becomes the star — handy for fitting a landscape photo into the square social-media format without cropping it. A dark border makes bright photos pop, and vice versa.
