When you need to convert a duration
Video editors often work in seconds: YouTube marks a chapter at "1:07:30", but your editing software wants 4,050 seconds. The same goes for sports: a running app logs your workout in total minutes (say, 95.5 minutes) and you want to know that's 1:35:30 so you can compare it with the official race time. It also comes up when timing recipes, planning workouts, or billing by the hour — if a job took 7,200 seconds, that's exactly 2 hours at your hourly rate, so $50/hour comes to $100. This converter handles both directions so you never have to remember the formulas.
How the conversion works (with examples)
One hour is 3,600 seconds and one minute is 60. So 1:30:00 = 1×3600 + 30×60 = 5,400 seconds, which is 90 minutes or 1.5 hours. Going the other way, to turn 10,000 seconds into clock format you divide by 3,600 (2 hours, with 2,800 seconds left), then by 60 (46 minutes, with 40 seconds left): the result is 2:46:40. In the field at the top you can also type just minutes and seconds ("23:45") or a plain number of seconds ("500") — the tool figures out the format on its own.
