Which favicon sizes you actually need
The four generated sizes cover every real-world case: 16×16 is the classic icon in the browser tab, 32×32 covers high-density screens and bookmarks, 48×48 is the size Google prefers when it shows your icon in search results, and 180×180 is the apple-touch-icon that appears when someone adds your site to their iPhone or iPad home screen. Tips for a favicon that stays readable
At 16 pixels, fine detail disappears: a simple symbol, a single letter, or a solid shape with strong contrast works far better than long text or a photo, which turn into an unreadable smudge. If the image you upload isn't square, the tool automatically crops it from the center, keeping the largest square area — so your icon never ends up squashed or stretched.
