How to take your body measurements
To pick the right size you need three measurements, taken with a soft measuring tape over your underwear, snug but not tight. Chest/bust: around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape level. Waist: around the narrowest point, usually just above the belly button. Hips: around the widest part. As a rough reference, a women's US 6 corresponds to about a 35–36 in (88–92 cm) bust, 27–28 in (68–72 cm) waist and 37–38.5 in (94–98 cm) hips; a men's US 40 corresponds to about a 39–40 in (98–102 cm) chest.
Watch out for "EU" labels and brand differences
In womenswear, the "European" size on a label is almost always the French one, and Italian sizes run 4 points higher: an EU/FR 40 is an IT 44 — both equal to a US 6 or UK 10. For menswear, US and UK sizes are simply the chest measurement in inches, while European and Italian numbers match each other. Every brand cuts its own fit, though: athletic brands tend to run large, fast fashion tends to run small. If you're stuck between two sizes, check the brand's own measurement chart and compare it with your numbers.
